other foot first is a '7-or-more-tet' led by percussionist and composer joe sorbara. their music is scored for percussion, two guitars, and four horns; though the ensemble is often larger than this and an improvised approach to orchestration is employed. the ensemble deals equally with pre-composed and instantly-composed or freely improvised music; but especially with the vast terrain in between these extremes: with the wonders and challenges offered in negotiating various types and degrees of constraint and freedom as if moving through an obstacle course rather than a composition.

the band is currently composed of sorbara playing drums and percussion with ken aldcroft, nate renner and thom gill on guitars; jay hay, evan shaw, chris willes and ronda rindone on various woodwinds, nicole rampersaud on trumpet and scott thomson on trombone.

other foot first is in residence at somewhere there during the months of september and october 2009. you can hear them there every sunday evening from 6pm. with some luck, their escapades will be documented and shared here in the near future...
