quo·rum ( kwôr ' əm, kwōr ' - ) n. A sufficient number of members of a deliberative body to have their own way and their own way of having it.
in august 2005, ronda rindone set out to assemble a group of improvising musicians in to a sort of collective. the idea being that, given the obvious scheduling disaster of trying to assemble more than two people in one place at one time (never mind eight...), the set list of musicians involved should provide a sense of continuity from one performance to the next while any two members
should be enough to "have our own way of having our own way"; that is: it will
still be Us.
"a quorum is just usually the number of people required to transact business,
usually a majority. in our case, it will be at least two, with all the
possibilities up to octet. that is actually one thing i really like about the
group, that there will always be some motion in that way. kind of like the way
the same body of water looks differently depending on the light, viewing point,
etc. i like the idea of a constantly shifting reality, with the continuity of
players being together off and on and building an ensemble sound." -- ronda rindone
